The Culture Corner by Basil Wolverton

The Culture Corner by Basil Wolverton

Basil Wolverton’s cartoon feature “Culture Corner” originally appeared every month in Fawcett’s Whiz Comics (home of Captain Marvel) from 1945 to 1952. This collection reprints for the first time not only every “Culture Corner” strip extant, but the looser, more spontaneous pencil versions of the finished strips (as well as of many strips never completed) that have been carefully preserved over the last 65 years! Social etiquette and the American can-do spirit were the parodic subjects of “Culture Corner” where Wolverton would pose a question – how to snoew without being a bore, how to get out of bed gracefully, or how to boot a fly off your snoot – and offer a uniquely Wolvertonian solution over seven or eight panels of scandalous visual humour. Revered by cartooning afficionados, Culture Corner contains some of Wolverton’s most outrageous drawings and his trademarked lexicon of wacky wordplay.
