During the Second World War, French efforts to inventory, categorize and hide the collections of the major galleries collided with the German's Military Art Commission's attempt to do the same.
This is (not) that story.
Against this historical backdrop, the intimate story of curator Ila Gardner and officer Rolf Hauptmann's disconcerting and dangerous private relationship plays out in a public power struggle in which both are obligated by their jobs and their natures to participate. Moving Pictures unfolds along two timelines which collide with the revelation of a terrible secret, an enigmatic decision that many would not make, and the realization for both characters that sometimes the only choice left is the refusal to choose. |
