"These drawings are the result of a memory exercise. My process was much the same as when drawing 'The Rabble of Downtown Toronto' (2009), as follows: I would sit on the ground in the corner of my drawing nook, letting my mind wander. Usually, someone would come to mind. If not, I'd deliberately search my mind for someone. I'd then try to draw them based on the images in my mind's eye. As a result, some of the drawings are more representational, while others simply capture the essence of the person. For whatever reason, the image I had for some was crystal clear, but kind of murky for others." - Jason Kieffer, April 2019 |
