Summary, etc. note: "WHAT IS MEDITATION? And Why Should I do It?" (published by Editions TRIP Comix of Montreal) owes equally to the worlds of underground comix and meditation practice, with an Introduction by well-known alternative cartoonist CHESTER BROWN. It is absolutely the first of its kind! Having practiced meditation for more than 20 years, cartoonist Matthew Brown throws his hat into the light-filled void... Here he mixes autobiography with comix reportage to produce a unique take on the mysteries and practices of meditation. WHAT IS MEDITATION? Features live interviews with modern masters Edward "Edji" Muzika (USA) and Frederick Prack (Canada)-two teachers who bring the authentic value of introspection and healing into focus! It contains playful and powerful graphic interpretations of both Ed and Fred's sixty plus years each of life experience, exploration and realization in meditation. Also sporting renderings of Hindu and Buddhist spiritual concepts and cameos from the Buddha, Lao Tzu, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta Maharaj and others. This is one of the few graphic novels to propose a mature and playful exploration of meditation. ISBN 978-1-928087-20-5 Matthew Brown was part of the Montreal comix scene in the early nineties. He took Buddhist precepts in 1997 and has studied Theatre, Education, Design and Architecture as well as traveling around India, Nepal, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. He returned to the world of comics in 2010. He has published two books with TRIP and in 2016, self-published his master's thesis in architecture as a graphic novel: Architecture Department, and has had two previous books published by Editions TRIP: "Fear Itself" (collecting strips 1988-2004) and "The Cliff," an epic spiritual science fiction absurdist romance.
