Summary, etc. note:
|
Chang'e is the goddess of the moon and one of the most iconic figures from Chinese legend. It is said that her husband, the archer Yi, was rewarded with the elixir of immortality for saving the earth from being burned by ten suns. Chang'e - either willfully, accidentally, or by force (retellings vary) - then drank the elixir herself. This made her weightless and, by consequence, she floated up to the moon and crossed beyond the mortal realm. I imagine she would know, of all people, how it feels when there's a little part inside of you you don't quite understand, like a foreign object floating in space or water. This is my re-interpretation of the classic Chinese legend. |
